DYCP Plan 2022 - 2023
A Big Thank you!
I’d like to give a big thank you for your consideration, regardless of the outcome, I think this is a fantastic way support to creatives.
One line summary - Goals
I want to achieve a new jewellery collection, enabling me to exhibit at next year's Goldsmiths Fair (October 2023), using the Traditional methods of Enameling, following in the footsteps of Masters in their craft, Harry Forster-Stringer and his Mentor Phil Barnes. With the modern twist of 3D design and rapid prototyping.
Commissions
The Cuff-links were requested as an adaption to the Ring I had created, and I was more than happy to make those in Sterling silver for the groom, the pendant was a custom commission, the bride was a Calligrapher, preferring fairly understated pieces I kept the lines simple and strong, but added a little twist with the filigree and scroll work, thankfully she was very pleased, and I was really happy with the outcome.

Activity plan
Ongoing learning and development
Enameling and Engraving with Harry Forster-Stringer
A large part of my new work will involve ‘Glass Enamel’, after producing the new work in silver and gold. The outer surface will be engraved with patterns and then overlaid with enamel.
This will be a new skill and technique that I will be undertaking. I’ve been in contact with Harry about one to one courses and mentor-ship possibilities, and will plan a series of courses every 3-4 weeks between producing new work.
Wax sculpting Development with Jane Cooper
To make a piece of jewellery you want to replicate multiple times, creating a master mould is very important, traditionally this was carved in wax, and then cast in precious metals, Jane Cooper is an experienced Jeweller of many years, and is now offering courses in these skills, for persons that are new to the discipline, or those that wish to expand their skills.
Testimonial (Supporting Document)
by Tim Porter
Andrew's work ethic has continually inspired me within our years of freelancing. He has a natural ability to decipher client requests and strike a perfect balance of creativity and highly tailored detail, all executed within half the time of his competitors.
Andrew's unique creative eye has been showcased without restriction when developing his jewellery designs. His insight into the emotional connection of each client, and what needs to be conveyed artistically through the jewellery design, results in a tailor made art pieces that are worn with universal pride.
It's been a legitimate joy to work with Andrew within the creative industry, and to watch him fly whenever he is creating his latest standout jewellery piece
Public Engagement
Although the core of this activity for me is to create a catalog of new skills, I see this as part of a holistic undertaking, and gaining the tools and equipment will unlock so much, of what else is possible to follow.
Being able to produce work, and profit from those works, will open up my ability to participate in exhibitions where people can actively engage with myself and my work.
But more than this, I want to create a live streaming channel for my jewellery, and to broadcast my process as I work, I’ve been lucky enough to benefit from the live broadcasts of other artists, and its a great way to give back, engage with your audience, and also promote what you do
Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal
It’s been a really valuable process for me, the questions you pose for entrants to answer, have really made me consider the longer term aspects of my craft, I think in recent years many have been trying to tread water and not go under, but being given the opportunity to look to the future is so valuable, its hard to calculate how far reaching it can be.
For me personally, this has helped solidify a vision for my career, and the next stage of my life, and I will strive to see it made a reality, and make sure I take as many people with me on the journey.
Take care and best wishes!
